Thought occurred to me recently concerning the size of the national debt. Follow me for a minute.
There are roughly 250,000 leaves on a typical tree. Found this out by googling it. In addition there are typically 350 trees per acre in a mature forest.
250000 X 350 87500000
Ok, so we have 87.5 million leaves per acre.
Next we have 640 acres per square mile.
87500000 X 640 56000000000
This gives us 56 Billion leaves per square mile.
Now as a part time resident (and native) I knew WV has about 25000 square miles. Turns out 24231 is exactly the right answer.
56000000000 X 24231 1356936000000000
1356 Trillion leaves. That’s a [...]

As the Battle of Britain came to a close one can picture the scene as Lads and Ladies stepped out from behind the rubble. Figuratively, Hitler must have seen their backs were a little straighter, their jaws a little squarer. At that time the only significant victory achieved by the British was in not dying. He had thrown everything (air wise) he had at them and it wasn’t enough. I would imagine Hitler first began to experience that gnawing feeling in the pit of his stomach about then. As “D” Day came and went so too his grasp on reality.
Whether you mark the beginnings of the Tea Party movement from the Shamnesty protests or The Tax Day Tea Parties we [...]

Backscatter/Naked scanners/Child Porn facilitators will not even detect plastic explosives like PETN.

Seems like while we were discussing body cavities it was entirely unnecessary to stick it where the sun don’t shine. Just get out the rolling pin and go. Pancake your PETN or other malleable explosives and walk on through the backscatter machine to your assigned gate.
Innocent homemaker laying out dinner for her family? Or al-Aqsa martyr planning her next attack?
Just roll it down flat and backscatter will not pick it up. According to the report the backscatter will also NOT pickup knives, guns and other contraband if said contraband is properly placed on the body. It relates to image resolution and angles of [...]

Why do we think the American Drive In should focus on ObamaCare when there are so many other problems that need attention?
Here are a few points to consider:
In the past, the big government, statist, RINO types have been all too happy to see us fractured into 5 or 10 different issues. It is easy to distract away from their poor performance if they can point to the five things they voted for, while accomplishing none of them. By focusing on ObamaCare, a single issue, there can be no doubt how each Representative and Senator votes. Most Americans agree we need to stop excessive spending, lower taxes, control illegal immigration, balance the budget, repeal financial reform and more; ObamaCare, more [...]

and with financial reform, and health care, and Social Security, and MediCare/caid, and terrorism is this;
We have a government that thrives by driving us with fear. If they can scare us, they get more power. It is like a Pavlovian parlor trick.
Create FEAR = get POWER.
Create FEAR = get POWER.
etc, etc, ad nauseum.
It is not that these problems (the supposed underlying problem) don’t all have some risks associated with them. Poverty, injury, death. But the government has a vested interested in overblowing the danger in order to get us to release power to them. In fact, all too often, we DEMAND they take the power and do something.
We will never be free as long as [...]

Except, Rick Perry. Here.
Several of us recently had a debate in the diaries (Here and Here.) regarding the scam and how to end it. Thanks again GC.
The other side of the argument was that Social Security is “defacto constitution,” whatever that means, and that nobody who is anybody is saying it should be ended.
Not only is Perry talking about ending Social Security, he is talking about ending ALL of the New Deal. Income Tax, SS, and More.
Perry criticized President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal and an early 20th-century “progressive era” movement that “gave the federal government access to our wallets via taxation.”
Perry,” I want people to be afraid not to talk about that Social Security is bankrupt and is a [...]

A Tale of Two Futures
I could have kept Dickens original title describing two cities. One is a city on a hill providing light to the world, a beacon of liberty as envisioned by our forefathers. The other city is a Pompeii-esque backwater ossifying under a mountain of debt, excessive taxation and suffocating regulation destined for the ash heap.
One of these two cities is our future. We have delayed the decision for as long as possible. Much as the population of Pompeii, perhaps too ignorant to understand the signs and thus the danger when Vesuvius began its eruption, did not flee until it was too late; we too have delayed a choice, ignoring the signs and minimizing the danger. If we choose not to decide, [...]

It would seem evident that Republicans will take the house, the senate is a toss-up and the RGA will do well. At this point the size of the victory is the big question. It won’t really matter if DeMint wins with 70% or 71%. We are coming down to a point where a few extra dollars here or there may help decide a close election. Michelle Bachmann, for example seems to be OK on cash and sending her money at the expense of say Christine O’Donnell may be a bad choice.
According to RCP, the races below are the ones mostly in play.
So who has money and who needs money? Which races are literally going to turn on a dime?

There are many men of principle in both parties in America, but there is no party of principle.
Alexis de Tocqueville
Do we have a party of principle? What are the principles?
Do we even have men of principle? What are those principles?
Are you a Big Tent Republican? Does big tent preclude principle? Reagan’s big tent philosophy is often cited as reason to avoid getting bogged down in policy debates. Or for failing to excommunicate RINO’s. Did Reagan have no principles?
I have asked here before if there is even one principle to which conservatives can agree one must be bound to be accepted into the fold. I have not yet heard the response that was more than [...]
