Golem Nation

Declaration_independence

I’ve had what I think is an epiphany, of sorts.

Conservatives and more so, libertarians, have a serious problem.

They view liberty and limited government as a kind of machine that has a couple of the gears stripped, maybe an armature frozen, a tensioner pulley a little loose. I do it too. For example, I see 1913 as a disastrous year and it was. Lots of gears, stripped, pulleys bent, etc. that year.

The idea is if we could just poke a little here and prod a little there, replace a gear, balance a flywheel, replace a shifter, undo 1913, etc. then everything would be back to normal and we would be good for a hundred years or more.

It is not true.

When the US [...]

My First Earthquake

300px-Fed_Reserve

I was working on a project that had me staying at my brother’s place in Canyon Country north of LA back in the mid 90’s. One morning I came out to my truck to get in and head off to a jobsite. Just as I reached the truck it started wobbling. It was an older truck with worn out springs and it looked to me like one of the neighborhood kids was perhaps crouched on the other side of the truck shaking it as a joke. I had seen and talked to a few of the kids around that time of morning as they waited for a school bus so I assumed that was what it was.  Before I could say anything the earth under [...]

The Suicide Pact

Whereas there has been some confusion regarding the precise role and powers envisioned for the federal government;

And

Whereas this confusion has resulted in unfortunate mis-understandings between the federal government and the states and the citizens of the various states;

Be it resolved that We the People, represented by the lowest common denominator,  with or without our consent, do hereby offer

The Final Amendment to the United States Constitution

ARTICLE THE LAST

SECTION 1. Congress hereby reserves to itself the right to spend whatever monies, derived from whatever source on any project of its choosing.

SECTION 2. In the event congress is unable to find sources of revenue, it shall have the power to print money directly [...]

Money doesn’t grow on trees. Or does it?

Image via Wikipedia

Thought occurred to me recently concerning the size of the national debt. Follow me for a minute.

There are roughly 250,000 leaves on a typical tree. Found this out by googling it. In addition there are typically 350 trees per acre in a mature forest.

    250000
X        350
87500000

Ok, so we have 87.5 million leaves per acre.

Next we have 640 acres per square mile.

       87500000
X               640
56000000000

This gives us 56 Billion leaves per square mile.

Now as a part time resident (and native) I knew WV has about 25000 square miles. Turns out 24231 is exactly the right answer.

          56000000000
X                     24231
1356936000000000

1356 Trillion leaves. That’s a [...]

Battle of Britain REDUX

Image via Wikipedia

As the Battle of Britain came to a close one can picture the scene as Lads and Ladies stepped out from behind the rubble. Figuratively, Hitler must have seen their backs were a little straighter, their jaws a little squarer. At that time the only significant victory achieved by the British was in not dying. He had thrown everything (air wise) he had at them and it wasn’t enough. I would imagine Hitler first began to experience that gnawing feeling in the pit of his stomach about then. As “D” Day came and went so too his grasp on reality.

Whether you mark the beginnings of the Tea Party movement from the Shamnesty protests or The Tax Day Tea Parties we [...]

No major nationally known politician will talk about ending the Social Security Ponzi Scheme.

Except, Rick Perry. Here.

Several of us recently had a debate in the diaries (Here and Here.) regarding the scam and how to end it. Thanks again GC.

The other side of the argument was that Social Security is “defacto constitution,” whatever that means, and that nobody who is anybody is saying it should be ended.

Not only is Perry talking about ending Social Security, he is talking about ending ALL of the New Deal. Income Tax, SS, and More.

Perry criticized President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal and an early 20th-century “progressive era” movement that “gave the federal government access to our wallets via taxation.”

Perry,” I want people to be afraid not to talk about that Social Security is bankrupt and is a [...]

The FED is ProgressivismThe FED is Progressivism

Just a short flight from Becker’s anti-Ron Rant.

Hamilton proposed and oversaw the creation of the First Bank of the US.

Generally central banks in the US have been favored by proponents of a strong national government. Hamilton was also a borderline monarchist. He wanted a King-like President and he wanted the senate to be a British style House of Lords with lifetime tenure. Chuckie Schumer for life.

Though he wrote of balance of power in the Federalist Papers he consistently landed on the side of federal power once the document was ratified. Combine his opposition to the Bill of Rights with his love of federal power and he is what?

He argued against the Bill of Rights because it would contradict the notion that [...]

Total War Means TOTAL WARTotal War Means TOTAL WAR

“with a firm reliance on the Protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor”
There were some poor, many “middle” class and a few that were filthy rich. John Hancock was likely the richest man in America at the start of the revolution. Samuel Adams was generally broke. Everyone risked all.
Total War is not only defined by what you are willing to destroy in your quest for victory but what you are willing to lose.
“The only hope you have is to accept the fact that you’re already dead. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you’ll be able to function as a soldier is supposed to function: without mercy, without [...]
